$48,000 Nets Hard Rock Hotel And Casino Michael Jackson Glove
Michael Jackson is a musical legend. The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino brand prides itself on having items used by musical legends. This past weekend, the Hard Rock acquired possibly the most recognizable symbol in music history.
Michael Jackson's white glove has been a symbol that defined the King of Pop for decades. The Hard Rock has now purchased the glove through an auction that was held in Melbourne, Australia. The Hard Rock representative paid $48,000 for the glove.
Originally,it was thought that the glove would only sell for around $24,000. The fact that the price nearly doubled from the perceived price showed just how valuable the piece of music history was for the Hard Rock.
"The Hard Rock has some of the most eccentric items that musicians have ever used on stage, from guitars, to clothing, and to the white glove that helped make Michael Jackson who he was in the music world," said observer Nelson Diaz.
The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas has been experiencing similar revenue declines to other Las Vegas casinos. The glove will certainly be a piece of memorabilia that people would come to see, and anything that can help improve revenue in these tough economic times will be helpful.
The glove ended up in Australia because back in 1996, Jackson visited to appear at the premiere of the movie "Ghosts." While at the premiere, Jackson threw the glove to a member of the audience. That man has since passed away, and his mother put the glove up for auction.
