Anti-Gambling Group Facts Dispelled In Ohio Casino Report
Opponents of casino gambling in Ohio have been saying for months how the projections from supporters of Issue 3 on how much money the state would make were false. They have been going on radio and taking out ads attacking the $651 million that supporters claim the state would make from the casinos.
On Monday, their scare tactics went up in flames. The Ohio Department of Taxation and Office of Budget and management released their published analysis. In their estimation, the four proposed casinos would generate $643.4 million annually.
That is a difference of less than $8 million from the gambling proponents estimation. Now, the anti-gambling groups who have been trying to gain public support, must turn their efforts towards diverting the public's attention in a different direction.
There is a growing sentiment in Ohio that the time has come for casinos. The voters in the state have turned away casino proposals before, but finally there appears one that is receiving much public support.
Issue 3 would authorize casinos for four major cities in Ohio. Columbus, Cleveland, Toledo, and Cincinnati would all receive casinos if the gambling measure on the November ballot is approved.
"This report from the state of Ohio affirms the facts and information our campaign has been communicating to the citizens of Ohio," said Charlie Luken, Chairman of the Ohio Jobs and Growth Committee, in a statement.
