Penn National Gaming may end up building their highly anticipated casino in another area of Columbus, Ohio, but for now they are moving forward with the idea for the Arena District. On Friday, the company completed the purchase of land for the casino.

There have been many objections to a casino in the Arena District, and Penn National has acknowledged that they are open to developing a casino at another location. Up until now, however, no other location has caught their eye.

On Friday, Penn National obtained twenty-four acres of land in the Arena District. A spokesman for the company claims that they are seriously exploring possibilities elsewhere, but that the land deal was still completed. It will not be easy for Penn National to change locations.

In order for a location change, a majority of voters in Ohio would have to approve the measure. The change of location also would take three-fifths approval from legislators in the state.

Issue 3 that was on the ballot this past November, specified the location of the Columbus casino, and that is what voters approved. The company could not change the location without an additional amendment to the law passed in November.

Voters in Ohio approved casinos for the first time in November. Four casinos will be built, one each in Cleveland, Toledo, Cincinnati, and Columbus. Three of the four areas have residents looking forward to the casino, but there has been resistance in Columbus.
