Atlantic City casinos have been struggling for so long now that their monthly revenue figures are no longer surprising. In August, it was another down month for casinos in the city, this time, dropping over fifteen percent.

Casino in Atlantic City have been hit as hard as any throughout the US. Las Vegas and AC were the two top gaming destinations before the economy crashed, but since last year, they both have been struggling mightily.

Atlantic City casinos fell 16.3% in August from the same period last year. Considering that last August was not good either, it has put casinos in a tough position. Several of the casinos have already filed for bankruptcy protection.

"What the city needs is really a complete overhaul," said observer Frank Jenkil, "with new casinos going up all over the country, AC casinos need to once again give people a reason to travel outside of their home states."

Back when Atlantic City and Las Vegas were controlling all of the casino action in the US, there was little competition. Now, however, many states have liberalized their gaming laws and casinos are popping up in record numbers across the US.

The Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino feel the farthest in August, almost thirty percent. The Tropicana Casino and Resort had the smallest drop off at 6.9%. All eleven casinos in the city had a revenue decline in August.
