Atlantic City Casino Hit With Largest Fine Ever For Underage Service
Atlantic City is trying to remake itself into the gambling destination of the East. One casino, however, has gone a little too far by allowing underage gambling.
The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa received the largest fine ever for allowing underage gambling. The state Casino Control Commission hit the Borgata with a $105,000 fine Wednesday. An additional $75,000 was ordered against the casino for allowing six underage patrons to drink alcohol.
The Borgata was quick to point out that they have never had any fines or punishments for these infractions in the past. "We've demonstrated how seriously we take these matters. It's important for underage individuals to know how seriously we take this," said Joe Corbo, general counsel for the Borgata.
The person that led the casino to the fines was not revealed by name, only his initials, A.P. He lost his drivers license and was fined $500 for his role in being in the casino and gambling. he was at the casino ten times in just over a year.
The Borgata does have incentives in place for keeping underage people out of their casino. They offer $50 for workers each time they catch an underage person in the casino gambling, or drinking.
The Borgata was not the only casino fined on Wednesday. The Tropicana Casino and Resort was fined $10,000 for allowing an underage person to play slots. The Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort received a fine of $40,000 for violations back in August.
