Atlantic City Casino Under Construction Has Fire Damage
Atlantic City is in the middle of a turn over of their once proud casino industry. On Sunday morning, a fire set back the reconstruction efforts at one of their new casinos, the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.
A fire broke out inside a 43 story building that has been under construction by the casino. The blaze took place between 7:30 and 8:00 and the fire department had it under control by about 10:00 A.M.
The tower, which is called "The Water Club", is a $400 million project by the casino and will add a two story "spa in the sky", five swimming pools, and 800 additional guest rooms.
The building was set to be completed by early 2008 and, when finished, is expected to be one of the tallest buildings in Atlantic City. It is a 457 foot tall tower and is one of the expansion pieces that AC officials hope will bring tourism back to the Garden State.
Tourism, which has always been a staple of Atlantic City, has been down in recent years with many of the big names in the casino industry pulling out of the area.
Nobody was injured in the early morning fire and there was also no reports of any structural damage. No cause for the blaze has been released as an investigation is ongoing.
