Atlantic City Casinos Dealing With Slowing Economy Differently
The economy is slowing down rapidly. Companies are going out of business, and money is scarce for the average working American. Not much is going well for business owners.
In Atlantic City, casinos have already been dealing with lower revenues. States around the country are expanding their gambling efforts, leading to less reason for people to travel to New Jersey to do their gambling.
Couple that with the economy, and what develops is potential disaster for what used to be the gambling capital of the East Coast. The casinos are dealing with the revenue decline in different ways.
Some casinos believe the time has come to shut down the one thing that has been a staple in these casinos. Comps. The city was founded on high rollers receiving room and food comps.
With the economy as bad as it is, some of the city's eleven casinos feels it is time to do away with the freebies. Others, however, believe it is time to step up the free hand outs.
With people struggling for money, and with competing casinos in nearby states, what people need is an incentive to come to Atlantic City.
Free meals and rooms might be just what the doctor ordered to bring people back to a city that used to dominate the casino gambling universe. Casinos are just another example of how the economy is ruining business.
It is now up to them to decide which direction to go. To be free, or not to be free. That is the question
