Atlantic City Casinos Have More To Worry About Than Smoking Ban

Atlantic City was once the hot spot of the East Coast. the biggest names in entertainment were seen on a regular basis at the casinos in Atlantic City, and travelers planned vacations frequently to the Las Vegas of the East Coast.

Owners of these casinos that once were the toast of the town, have ran their establishments into the ground, and the gambling revenue numbers show as much. In September, revenue numbers had their biggest drop in thirty years.

Owners of casinos in the city are now complaining that a new smoking ban that has been put into effect, is killing their business. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

While the smoking ban might hurt what is left of their businesses, the facts remain that Atlantic City casinos have been on the decline for the better part of the past decade. Smoking was allowed in the casinos for much of this decline.

Surrounding states have expanded their casino options. People are not traveling from their home states to gamble like they used to. It is cheaper for these people to stay inside state lines and gamble, rather than going to Atlantic City.

The new casinos in other states have also coincided with Atlantic City casinos getting old. The city has began renovation projects for many of their casinos, but the efforts have been slowed by the current economy.

The economy is hurting Las Vegas, so one can only imagine what it is doing to Atlantic City. It is true that AC casinos are in trouble, but the new smoking laws are not at the root of that problem.
