Atlantic City Casinos Join In On Promotional Gimmicks

Atlantic City casinos have for a long time been above using promotional gimmicks to bring in customers. That has all changed, however, since the 2008 economic recession. The casinos now are pulling out all the stops to bring gamblers back.

The latest attempt to bring in customers was detailed by The Associated Press. The paper reported on a Three Dog Night concert that brought thousands of people to the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort. Once the concert was over, those in attendance spilled over to the slot machines and the card tables.

Atlantic City is in the midst of one of its worst runs when it comes to gaming revenue. The recession is responsible for taking customers away from AC, but it is competition from neighboring states that has kept gamblers away in recent years. Pennsylvania has done the most damage to the ailing AC casino industry.

Early last year, Pennsylvania lawmakers were faced with the ultimatum of legalizing table games, or risking losing government jobs. That was the gauntlet that was laid down by Governor Ed Rendell. The legislators responded by adding table games to the list of options at state casinos.

Now, a year after the table games became operational, the Pennsylvania gaming industry is thriving. No longer are the AC casinos the only game in town, and customers have enjoyed having a selection when it comes to their casino gambling.

"I live in south New Jersey, so it is easy for me to go to either Atlantic City or across the border to Pennsylvania," said Brittany Stevens. "I enjoy Atlantic City a little more because they have all the casinos in one area, but I do go to Pennsylvania on occasion because their casinos are much more modern."

The modernization factor is one that cannot be ignored, and AC casinos have started to renovate over the past few years. Resorts, the oldest casino in New Jersey, recently went through a major renovation period, with new owner Dennis Gomes changing the theme to the casino. The facility now reflects the prohibition era.

As for the other casinos in AC, they have turned their attention away from the high rollers, and are focused now on increasing their overall attendance numbers. Concerts such as the Three Dog Night event that was held at Trump Taj Mahal are becoming increasingly popular as a way to bring customers back, and many of the casinos are making similar adjustments to their marketing strategy.
