The Atlantic City casino industry has been struggling for several years now. The economic recession has placed a major dent in what was once a gaming mecca. Now, New Jersey is dealing with increased competition from all over the US.

That did not stop the city's eleven casinos from holding a job fair in April. The results of that job fair have been released by the New Jersey Casino Control Commission and 517 people have gained employment through the fair.

With the economy improving over the past several months, there have been indications that the AC casinos may soon once again be filled with gamblers. The projected increase in customers has many of the casinos hiring again. For the past two years, workers have lost their jobs, and now the casinos are starting to once again become a driving force in the economy.

Gaming table operators, food and beverage workers, security, and housekeeping positions were all filled through the job fair that was held at Atlantic Cape Community College. According to several casino executives, this was just the first round of what they hope will be many more hirings.

Pennsylvania has become the biggest competitor for New Jersey in terms of casino gambling in the Northeast. Pennsylvania lawmakers legalized table games earlier this year, and that will give the state the necessary games to compete with AC casinos on a year round basis.

Other states are also making a push towards gambling expansion. New York and Maryland legislators have pushed for new casinos, and Delaware is not only adding table games, but also sports betting. The sports betting began in Delaware last football season.
