It seems that just about everyone who has an opinion on casino gambling at the famed Gettysburg site in Pennsylvania wants to speak at this weeks public hearing. The hearing being held in front of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, started on Tuesday.

With over 400 people registered to speak at the hearing, the event could go on not only through today, but also Thursday. The people who want their voices heard are passionate about the issue, and most are in favor of building the casino.

"There is no denying that Gettysburg plays an important role in the history of our country," said Brad Milner. "But we cannot stay stagnant forever. We need to create jobs for residents in this area, and a casino would provide those jobs."

The cry against the casino are coming from those who want to preserve the historic battle ground. These residents believe that the casino and the history cannot co-exist, something that pro-casino groups dispute.

The casino plan has the backing of the Gettysburg Battlefield Preservation Association. At first, the group opposed the casino, but after examining the plan further, they started to realize that the casino could actually be helpful to the area.

Hundreds of jobs would be created if the casino is built. In addition, over $90 million annually would be funneled into the region. That is a number, however, that opponents believe is on the extreme high end of prognostications.

Pennsylvania casinos have recently gained the right to offer table games, thanks to lawmakers who legalized the expanded form of gambling. The state has a growing gaming industry, and one that may soon rival New Jersey. Atlantic City remains the gaming capital of the Northeast currently, but that could change in the near future with Pennsylvania casinos' addition of the table games.
