Beau Rivage Casino Reopening On Katrina Anniversary
At CasinoGamblingWeb.com, one of the nice things about our job is reporting news of comebacks. Down on the Gulf Coast, one of the biggest comebacks in gambling industry history is in the making.
The Beau Rivage casino is preparing to reopen on August 29th, the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina with full-scale land-based casino gambling, entertainment, and dining.
The casino promenade will be wider, brighter and richer than before. The vibrant florals in the carpet bloom again, but the place has a more masculine tone with wooden beams in the ceiling and burl veneer on the gaming tables. Gamblers will have 93 tables and 2100 slots to play.
Among the new features at the Beau will be a poker room remodeled after the Bellagio and three restaurants slated to open next December.
Beau President George P. Corchis Junior says teams of casino personnel planned how to build back with better quality to prepare for new competitors entering in the Gulf Coast casino market 3 years down the road.
Parent company MGM Mirage has spent more than 500 million dollars to bring back the Beau. It will employ 3800 people, 800 more than it did before storm and more than any other casino on the coast.
Hurricane Katrina's tidal surge ripped through the south wall of the casino's gambling barge, pushing its contents into a dam of debris. Some things can't be replaced. The microbrewery was destroyed, and the Beau lost its collection of museum-quality George Ohr pottery.
Entertainment acts begin performing at the venue in September with Jay Leno, Tony Bennett and Sinbad among shows scheduled.
