Beverly Hillbillies Casino May Be Coming To Nevada Soon
The Beverly Hillbillies was one of the most popular sitcoms of all time. Back in the 1960,s, there were few shows that garnered such attention. Now, it appears that the show may be coming back to life, but not on television.
Max Baer Jr. was one of the co-stars on the original Beverly Hillbillies sitcome. He is now considering buying a closed down casino in Sparks, Nevada, and turning it into Jethro's Beverly Hillbillies Hotel and Casino.
The Sparks location may not have been Baer Jr.'s first choice, but he has no problems in the casino landing there. His first attempt to build a casino complex came in Douglas County, but that plan has stalled.
"He (Baer Jr.) has not necessarily given up on Douglas County," said spokesman Don Smith, to the Reno Gazette-Journal, But because of the (economic) climate, his age, and his desire to get this thing built, he has to explore every available opportunity to see his dream come to fruition."
The casino he is looking at is the former Silver Club. It has been closed down, but is still owned by Harold Holder. The casino is one of six that has filed for bankruptcy, and it is up for sale. Baer Jr. has yet to meet with Holder about a potential sale.
This may not be the best time for a casino project in the US and especially in Nevada. Las Vegas and other cities in Nevada have seen their casino industry fall on hard times since the economy has soured.
