Bingo Gambling Still Going Strong In Texas

It is not often that bingo and millions of dollars are mentioned in the same breath. That is the case in Texas, however, where the state is still profiting from what used to be the entertainment game of choice.

Casino gambling is now sweeping across the nation and has taken over as the people's choice. It has a wide array of games that can be played, opposed to bingo, which runs at a mush slower pace.

Last year alone, the game of bingo brought in almost $700 million to the state of Texas. That is according to the Texas Lottery Commission. The $680 million that the game made in 2008 was the largest figure ever in the state.

"We like to play the game. The casinos are too crowded and they do not cater to us like the bingo hall,' said longtime bingo player Tracy Kieskle, "It is just a nice way to spend an evening and sometimes, win some money."

Texas reported $510 million in winnings throughout the state. That is a figure that most states try to hit when they bring casino gambling to an area. In Texas, they are happy with the results from bingo gambling, which has been legal since 1981.

"Anytime you can have over $500 million to help with the state budget, it is a good thing," said observer Harvey Frillstein, "especially in the current state of the economy."
