Bored Groups In Missouri Take Up Casino Gambling Opposition
The state of Missouri is trying to expand their casino options for gamblers. They are proposing that the casino loss limits be raised in order to bring more revenue into the state.
That is the good news. The bad news is that there are now, one month before the November election, opposition groups forming to take on this proposal. Three groups with nothing better to do have joined together in the interest of self satisfaction.
Casino Watch and Representative Ray Salva, along with a Cape Girardeau businessman, have filed lawsuits bringing into question the measures constitutionality. Silva is concerned about putting a limit on the amount of licenses the state would give out under the proposition.
"Proposition A is a very solid proposal that will increase funding for schools and other services without increasing taxes on Missouri residents," said Scott Charlton, a spokesman for the coalition supporting the ballot measure.
The measure is being supported by the existing casinos in the state in addition to various business groups. The state auditor has predicted that raising the loss limits will bring in over $100 million for schools in Missouri.
