Borgata Casino expanding for customers
A space between the ceiling and the blue curtain that will cover the next phase of the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa from the public until Friday morning reveals a hint of what the $200 million gambling casino expansion will look like. The clue is a multicolored glass chandelier, the kind of fixture that's all over the Borgata, the one that has become synonymous with the casino's modern decor.
A look behind the curtain reveals more slot machines, more restaurants owned by celebrity chefs and, overall, simply more of the casino that already has set the standard among city casinos in terms of revenue and style. With white columns and Italian design, the new room looks much like the one downstairs, just nearly three times the size.
With 85 tables, the poker room behind the curtain and security guards will become Atlantic City's largest casino. For the Borgata, which opened in 2003, the new room is a sign of the casino setting itself apart as a poker destination, according to casino officials.
Behind the action, a computer system will enable poker room managers to know where each player is sitting at any given moment, allowing them to tell players in person when a game they've been waiting for has become available.
