The Boulder fire that broke out this morning in Colorado threw a wrench in the Labor Day plans of many people in the state. While the fire was contained by the afternoon, many residents used the blaze as a reason to travel to Black Hawk casinos.
The day was already going to be busy at Black Hawk casinos such as Ameristar Casino Resort, but after word of the fire traveled around Boulder, the day became even better for Ameristar. Nancy Eagan and her husband decided to get out of Boulder for the day and try their luck at the casino.
"We woke up this morning and were planning on barbecuing, but when we saw the news of the fire, we changed our plans,' said Eagan. "So we came here Ameristar Casino) and will spend the day playing the slot machines. We will probably have dinner here, then go back home later on tonight."
By the time the Eagan's return home, the fire should be a thing of the past. Heavy winds are credited with sparking the fire, and emergency crews have been working to stop the blaze throughout the afternoon. Several buildings have been destroyed, but nobody has been reported injured as of yet.
Evacuation centers have been set up and dozens of residents filed into the centers as of this afternoon, according to The Associated Press. Roads have been closed as the emergency units attempt to not only control the blaze but do some of the clean up on the buildings and structures that have been destroyed.
In Black Hawk, the gambling festivities went on as usual. The Eagan's were just a couple of the thousands of gamblers that filed into casinos in the city. Colorado casinos have become a popular destination area for travelers who want to enjoy the beauty of Colorado and have the casino option available to them.
