Britains Gambling Addiction Rising To Record Numbers
Studies are constantly being done across the world on the amount of people with severe gambling problems, this week, a new study will be released in Britain and will claim that nearly one million people are affected by problem gambling.
According to the report, nearly two percent of the estimated 40 million people that gamble regularly have a problem. That figure will be up from the 33 million gamblers and 0.9 problem gamblers that were reported last time a large survey was taken back in 1999.
If the numbers are to be believed, then that means that nearly 800,000 people have a gambling problem.
The numbers are also up in people who are seeking help for their gambling problems. GamCare, a support group for problem gamblers reports that they received 30,247 calls this past year into their facility, that number is up 34 percent from the previous year.
The online gaming industry has a lot to do with the increased numbers, and the availability of legal casinos has also risen to record numbers, so the problem gambler numbers are sure to rise as the industry does.
Many believe that the percentages are the same as it has been for years, but because the number of people gambling is raising to such unbelievable numbers, that the number of problem gamblers seems inflated, but is, in fact, still a minute percentage of all gamblers.
