Broward County, Florida Finally Gets To Play Vegas Style Slots
In Hallandale Beach, Florida an old, popular, and redesigned Gulfstream Park will open its doors and invite in the crowds that have eagerly been waiting for the state's first Vegas style slots.
Gulfstream Park has been waiting so long to get the approval to host the traditional slots that when they got the approval and put the machines in place they instantly decided to open up their doors, even before they started advertising.
Paul Micucci, Gulfstream Park's president, said they have received thousands of calls asking them when the machines will be available, so he figured it couldn't hurt to open the doors and invite in the crowd. He assumes the lure of the machines, word of mouth, and some press may be enough to pack his casino today when he opens the doors at noon.
Four pari-mutuals are approved to host the Vegas style slots in Broward County, Florida and the Gulfstream will be the first to reveal them to the public. Mardi Gras Racetrack & Casino, formerly Hollywood Greyhound Track, hopes to open in December.
It's been more than two years since a statewide referendum allowed Broward voters to decide to have traditional slots. A 50% slots tax is projected to make the state's schools more than $209 million a year.
