Butler National Corp. Wins Bid For Casino In Ford County, Kansas
The state of Kansas has moved turtle-like in their decision making process regarding four new casinos in the state. Finally on Friday, the state revealed who will run the casino in the last of four counties to get new casinos.
Butler National Corporation was chosen by the Kansas Lottery Gaming Facilities Board to become the operator of the casino in Ford County. The choice completes a grueling time period in which four new operators were chosen.
Butler beat out only one competitor in the race to win the casino contract. Dodge City Resort and Gaming Co. LLC out of Wichita was the unlucky loser. Dodge City will be the location of the new casino.
Butler's proposal included a 124 room hotel, twenty table games, and around 875 slot machines. The total estimated cost for the new casino is in the $100 million range. Butler already operates a tribal casino in Oklahoma.
The other counties had chosen their operators in the past few weeks. Harrah's Entertainment and the Kansas Speedway both won their bids for casinos in the state.
Penn National also won the rights to the Cherokee County casino, but pulled out after fearing they would not be able to monopolize the casino gambling market. The state is now unsure who will replace Penn National.
