California Hopes To Help Asian Problem Gamblers By September
The state of California is leading the way into the next generation of casino gambling. The state has added many new casinos in the past decade, and they continue to explore more casino possibilities.
They have done things the correct way, however. In addition to adding casinos, the State Office of Problem Gambling has been expanding their treatment options as well.
One of the main groups that is affected by problem gambling in California is the Asian population. The State Office has heard their calls for help, and is in the process of training counsellors in Mien, Hmong, Lao, and other Asian languages.
There currently is only one Chinese language problem gambling helpline available in the Bay area, but by the end of the year acting State Office Director Terri Sue Canale plans to have more Asian speaking operators available.
California casino gaming is growing at a rapid pace much like it is around the country. In many states problem gambling treatment is low on the list of priorities, with some states even trying to cut funds to public programs.
California has not been one of those states. They have repeatedly tried to cater to the needs of problem gamblers, and are working on making their treatment options even stronger.
