Camarillo Fire May Keep Gamblers Away From Casinos Tonight
The state of California was dealing with three wildfires on Tuesday, one of which was the Camarillo fire. The brush fires had firefighters working overtime trying to contain the flames, and the fires have caused many closures throughout the day.
On Tuesday night, many gamblers were forced to stay inside instead of traveling to their favorite California casinos. Roads were shut down, some until Wednesday morning, and residents were forced to evacuate their homes in areas where the fire were at their most harmful.
Online gambling regulations is an issue that has been coming up a lot in California, with some legislators wanting to regulate online poker. As the brush fires continue to burden the state during this summer, the issue of Internet gambling may once again become up for debate.
"Although the fires are not something that officials will be concerned about on a yearly basis, it is another reason for lawmakers to want Internet gambling regulations," said Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz. "If Californians could gamble from the comfort of their own homes, they would not need to go out at times like these where the air outside is not that safe."
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has led a charge to make California one of the top casino gambling state's in the US. East Coast states such as Delaware, New York, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Maryland, have all expanded their gaming options in recent years.
Florida, New Jersey, and California are three states where lawmakers appear to be the most serious about regulating online poker. California and New Jersey have already had legislation proposed, although as of now the support has not been as strong as was expected regarding the original drafts of the bills.
