Casino Bad Beat Poker Jackpots Under Attack In California Lawsuit

Bad beat poker jackpots are popular in casinos all across the US. A player can win a rather large sum of money for actually holding a losing poker hand. In California, however, some players are calling a foul on casinos over the jackpots.

Jeff Kim and Dennis Chae have filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court that contends that five casinos in California are forcing players to contribute to the bad beat jackpots.

Hustler, Hollywood Park, Hawaiian Gardens, Commerce, and Bicycle Club have all been named in the lawsuit. The two poker players claim that the casinos are taking part in false advertising, because they advertise that no purchase in necessary to try and win the bad beat jackpots.

There is a $1 fee taken out of every pot, however, that goes to the bad beat jackpot. The players insist that if they are contributing to the $1 fee, then entry into the bad beat jackpot sweepstakes are not free.

McDonald's runs a popular Monopoly scratch off game, and they are governed by the same laws as the casino when it comes to the bad beat jackpots. A player must be allowed to win the jackpot without paying any fees, or else the game becomes an illegal lottery.

Many experts have weighed in on the lawsuit and do not believe the players will win. The players, however, are attempting to make the lawsuit a class action case in which thousands of players would join the efforts.

The players are trying to get the casinos to stop the false advertising, and on the way pick up monetary damages. They are also seeking an injunction to have the bad beat jackpots shut down at the named casinos.
