Casino Developer Barden To Honor Investment Of $3 Million
Don Barden has been taking steps to ensure that he would not have to honor a commitment to invest $3 million to the Hill District. He now has backtracked on those steps, and is ready to fork over the money.
He decided to honor the commitment, and although it will not be over the three years he had promised, he still is following through with his commitment. Barden could not be reached for comment, but he has withdrew a petition with the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
The petition was asking that Barden be let out of his commitment to the District. He will now invest the money over five years, instead of the original three years he had promised.
It is not yet known what the money will be used for, but the money will go towards, "various development projects that have not been identified yet," said Kevin Evanto, spokesman for Onorato.
Barden's casino plans keep moving along. He claims that the Majestic Star will be operating by May of 2009. He won the rights back in December of 2006 to build the first casino in Pittsburgh.
