Casino Gambling In Indiana Up In The Month Of January

It may be just a small victory for Indiana casinos, but at this point any victory can be considered significant. The thirteen casinos in Indiana had a five percent revenue increase from December of last year to January of 2009.

That does not seem like such a big jump, but at a time when casinos in the US are just trying to keep themselves in business, a five percent increase was a welcomed surprise. The numbers, however, were still down from the same month the previous year.

"Even though people are not going to the casinos as often as they have in the past, it is good to know that in the past month there has been an increase in business. Hopefully this will not be a one month change and there can be another increase in February,' said observer Kylie Grenacer.

The thirteen casinos in the state had an increase to $222 million in revenue between December and January. In Southeast Indiana January of this year could not compare favorably from 2008.

Last year, $61.6 million was made by the three casinos in the area, Grand Victoria, Belterra, and Argosy Casinos. This year in January, only $53.6 million was made at those casinos. The numbers were similar throughout the state.

The economy has caused almost every casino in the country to have lower numbers for the past six months as they had in the previous years. Still, an increase even of just five percent gives hope that the new year may begin the turnaround the casinos in Indiana are looking for.
