Casino Gambling Referendum Officially On Ballot In Ohio
Casino gambling is coming and there is not much that Penn National can do about it in Ohio. All that is left for expanded casino gambling in the state is the approval of voters.
Penn National, which has been involved with some shady business deals of late, headed a group that was trying to block the referendum from getting on the ballot in November. They claimed that MyOhioNow.com did not file the necessary paperwork.
The Secretary of State did not agree and certified the referendum to be on the ballot. MyOhioNow.com submitted over 800,000 signatures, but only 480,003 were validated. That was more than the 402,000 needed to get on the ballot.
Voters will now decide on the future of casino gambling in the state. If they vote for the casino, that would put an end to the current monopoly that Penn National holds on gamblers in the state.
Penn National recently pulled out of a deal in Kansas because they felt there would be too much competition from a neighboring casino. In Ohio, they are concerned that a new casino could cut into the profits from their casino interests in the state.
