Casino in La Union Gets Last Laugh Over Baguio City
Five years ago, Thunderbird Resorts Inc., wanted to open a casino in Baguio City, Philippines. The city did not want the casino at the time. It may have turned out to be a poor decision by the city.
In the five years that have passed, Thunderbird has built a strong business with clients from Baguio City. The casino is not in the city, however. It is San Fernando City in La Union.
The company claims that sixty percent of their customers come from Baguio. Why then, did the area not want a casino five years ago.
Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. says that Baguio has never wanted a casino in their city. The government there has turned down numerous proposals over a ten year span for casinos.
The current location of the Thunderbird casino is just an hour away from Baguio. The casino is said to draw between 1,000 to 2,000 people a day, and is prospering from clients from the city that did not want them.
The company is pleased with the current location. they even signed a lease contract for a resort. They have already began the project and are planning stage of the resort two worth $16 million in the near future.
