When people get mad over a certain issue it can drive them to do crazy things. In the city of Mulvane, Kansas, that crazy thing has turned out to be running for City Council.

A growing list of candidates for the Council jobs have arose, and many of them are running for only one reason. They want to keep casino gambling out of Mulvane.

"I ran for office to help the city and to give back to the city in public service. Most of these people running now have just one issue and have an ax to grind," said Councilman Joe Johnson, who is in his first term in office.

So far, seven candidates have joined the race to unseat the three incumbents to the Council. Of the seven, many have admitted that it is the casino issue that has fueled their fire to run for office.

These candidates believe that a casino would hurt the family oriented city. A casino would change the city into some kind of negative town. It is an argument that is commonly used by people who do not want casinos in their areas.

In the meantime, they may get their wish anyway in Mulvane. The Kansas Lottery Commission is seeking bids from developers for the casino in the area, but they have been hard pressed to find any that are willing to pay the hefty up front fees.

Harrah's Entertainment has already won the license rights, but decided to pull out of the project shorty after the economy fell apart in the US.
