Casino Land demands Trust Status
U. S. House passed a bill Tuesday that grants trust status to the land where the Emerald Queen Casino & Hotel in Fife is located, and gives the Puyallup Tribe of Indians jurisdiction and law-making power over the 30 acres west of Interstate 5. The move requires the approval of President Bush and the Interior Department, said George Behan, spokesman for the bill's sponsor, Rep. Norm Dicks, D-Belfair.
The Senate has already passed an identical bill, he said. This is a process that we?ve been working on since the move, said tribal spokesman John Weymer.
