Casino Operations Make Tribe Biggest Employer In Fremont County
Across the US, people are losing their jobs in record numbers and at a much greater pace than anyone cares for. This is the result of a global recession, and the immediate future does not look promising for many new jobs.
That is, of course, unless you live in Fremont County, Wyoming. The Northern Arapaho Tribe is now reporting that through their casino and other business interests, they have become the biggest employer in the county.
Casino operations alone for the tribe employ 560 workers and the tribe is not looking to cut jobs, they are actually still hiring people. That is according to a release by the tribe on Tuesday.
"At a time when so many people are losing their security at their jobs, it is great to see that at least in one area of the state of Wyoming that job security is not an issue," said observer Wyatt Grienke, "The Arapaho Tribe has done a great job of continuing to employ Wyoming residents."
The Riverton school district had been the largest employer with 520 employees. Little Wind Casino, however, just held its grand opening this past month and the sixty employees at the casino put the tribe above the school district.
Casinos workers around the country have not been as fortunate. Many casinos, including those in the biggest gambling states of New Jersey and Nevada, have had to downsize their operations because of the economy.
