Casino Operator Responds To Critics of Political Contribution
William Yung III is an important figure in the world of casino gambling. He is the head of the Columbia Sussex Corporation. Lately, he has been receiving criticism for his lofty campaign donations.
It was recently revealed that Yung gave a donation of $1 million to help the campaign of Steve Beshear. That money, along with Beshears pro gambling expansion stance, helped him get elected the Governor of Kentucky.
While some feel that Yung was out of line for his contribution, he has no feelings of remorse. "I make no apologies for helping get Steve Beshear elected. I've got a First Amendment right to spend my money any way I want to spend it," said Yung to the Associated Press.
Last month, Yung bought a piece of property in Northern Kentucky. His plan is to use that property to build a casino should legislation be passed to allow seven new casinos in the state.
Kentucky has never been a big advocate of casino gambling. Lawmakers, for years, have continuously shot down proposals to bring casino gambling to the state.
This proposal, however, is gaining steam. Beshear claims that if all seven casinos are approved, it could mean up to $600 million a year in tax revenue. That money would be welcomed by the state to help balance a budget that is is serious trouble.
