It is not a good time to be involved in the casino gambling industry in the US. Mississippi became the latest state on Wednesday to receive bad news regarding their casino revenue from the month of March.

In March, casino revenue was down in Mississippi by $8.3 million from the previous month of February. Revenue for March was $212.5 million, compared to $220.8 million in February. The news was even worse when considering the March 2009 revenue.

Last year, revenue at Mississippi was $232.7 million. That represented over a $20 million increase over March of 2010. The economy is still being blamed for the sagging numbers that have been declining now for over a year in most casino destinations throughout the US.

"Still, we've been getting a lot of interest from developers," said Allen Godfrey, Deputy Director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission. "We've had a number of people come up to us with proposals in both districts (Gulf Coast and Mississippi River) and that is encouraging."

Just a day earlier, Louisiana state police revealed their casino revenue for March and similarly to Mississippi, revenue was down. Louisiana casinos lost five percent from February revenue, and over eight percent from the same period a year ago.

The economic recession has stifled casino executives everywhere. In Atlantic City and Las Vegas, revenue has dropped for many months in a row during the recession. Meanwhile, across the world in Macau, gaming revenue has reached such a high level that the government has had to place restrictions on casino growth.
