Casino Slot Revenue Up Ever So Slightly At Foxwoods In Connecticut

In the current economy, and increase in revenue can be looked at as a successful month. That is why Mashantucket Pequot Gaming Enterprises is excited about an almost one percent increase in slot revenue for February.

The tribe owns two casinos, the Foxwoods Resort Casino and the MGM Grand at Foxwoods. On Friday, they announced that revenue from slot gambling was up to $58 million for February. That is an almost one percent increase over the same month in 2008.

Of course this increase came at a price for the tribe. The entertainment is what the revenue increase is being attributed to. Kid Rock held two concerts at the MGM Grand Theatre on Valentine's Day weekend, and the finale of The Contender also took place in late February.

Casinos traditionally use entertainment as a way of attracting customers who would not ordinarily be in a casino. Artists enjoy playing the venues because they are small, and they do not have to put in the amount of work that it takes to hold an arena concert.

Mohegan Sun did not fare as well. The casino reported a revenue decrease of almost ten percent in February. Their win for the month totaled $62.8 million. Their figures are more in line with the country wide casino revenue figures that are steadily dropping from month to month.

The standard by which casinos in the US are judged is Atlantic City and Las Vegas, both of which are struggling mightily. In Las Vegas, several casino companies are fighting for their business lives, while in Atlantic City several operators have already contemplated bankruptcy.
