Colusa Casino Expansion a Reality
Two decades after its birth as a humble bingo hall, the Colusa Casino is offering a new hotel, more restaurants, an expanded gambling floor, even a revised name pointing to its owners' aspirations.
At an open house Thursday morning, casino managers and leaders of the Cachil Dehe Band of Wintun Indians formally unveiled the expanded facility, now called the Colusa Casino Resort, and led visitors on tours of the complex on Highway 45 north of Colusa.
"It's a little humbling to think that 18 months ago, this place was half the size that it is today," said Harold Ellebracht, facilities director, during a 20-minute unveiling ceremony.
Two years of construction have added 55 hotel rooms, three restaurants and a reconfigured gaming floor. The additions cost the tribe about $20 million, according to Scott Rose, a vice president for the tribe's public-relations firm.
Though the three-story hotel, which opened in January, features the usual incentives and discounts for freer-spending gamblers, casino managers said it also is meant to serve non-gaming tourists such as hunters, anglers and bird-watchers. Managers already are organizing local hunting excursions on tribal land.
