Casino Supporters Not Deterred By Pessimistic Outlook In Ohio
In the state of Ohio there are many fundamental differences between the way that casino supporters and their opponents are looking at the issue. Despite the pessimism that exists, the supporters have remained focused on the task at hand.
In recent days, the debate has shifted from the usual rhetoric that is typically heard from casino opponents. The arguments over whether casinos increase crime and violence have been replaced with fresh company lines.
The latest obstacle for casino backers has become the economy in the state of Ohio. Opponents believe that in the current economy casinos simply cannot survive. They are concerned that if the economy worsens, and the casinos are built. then the state would be set up for disappointment.
The other issue the state is now facing is that they were late to get into the casino gambling game. Even if they are built, the casinos in the state would have to deal with competition from almost thirty other casinos in neighboring states.
Penn National, one of the casino developers who is pushing the new casino plan, claims they have already accounted for the competition and the economy in their estimates. The company believes that they will still hit their projected revenue figures.
The estimates Penn National has come up with come from in depth research into variables such as the age of potential customers in the area of the state where the casinos would be built. Their conclusions lead them to believe that casinos will have no problem prospering in the four proposed locations, Cincinnati, Toledo, Cleveland, and Columbus.
