Casino Workers Could Change Face Of Atlantic City Politics
Atlantic City is making a bold move. They are allowing the people that built it to what it is today to become more involved politically. They are allowing casino workers to run for public office.
Many casino workers are well liked in Atlantic City. They now have the opportunity to use that to their advantage in the city's political landscape. A new Bill has been passed that would allow casino workers to run for Mayor and City Council.
The City Council has much to say when it comes to casinos. Having a few of their own people on the inside would do wonders in the effort to once again make Atlantic City a top gambling destination.
The city has been trying to do it on their own, but the economy has slowed many of the renovation projects. The complete overhaul that is needed is still in the future of the city.
People have been less likely to travel to Atlantic City casinos because of the casino expansion that is going on in many states around the country. People no longer have to travel far to find a casino to gamble in.
Although the Bill passed by a 66-11 vote, there were still those that were weary of the possibilities of having a casino worker in public office. "I think we have started down a path from which there is no turning back," said Assemblyman Richard Merkt.
