Casinos are Just the Beginning on Mississippi Destination
A 1. 5-mile-long procession of American veterans, vintage cars and beauty queens marched, cruised and beamed through this rural town on Memorial Day. To Gov. Sonny Perdue and state health officials, the overhaul of Georgia?s Medicaid program that takes effect this week is win-win.
They say patients will get better health care even as taxpayers save money. On the surface, everything looked fine. But six feet below the ground, drinking water gushed out of a pipe and straight into the county?s stormwater system, where it was recaptured and treated again.
At 18,000 gallons a day, the leak underneath Wickershyre Way was the biggest find in a search to detect leaks in Gwinnett?s 3,300-mile pipe system. In Gwinnett these days, even the traffic signals are getting an upgrade. As part of a new Georgia Department of Transportation plan, the county?s major roadways will be controlled by brighter signals.
The department approved two contracts last week to upgrade the signals and make other intersection improvements along Pleasant Hill Road and Jimmy Carter Boulevard. The Gwinnett Gladiators played the first two games of the ECHL?s Kelly Cup finals before hostile sellout crowds of roughly 6,250 in Anchorage, Alaska.
