Casinos Loading Up On Concerts To Help Summer Gambling Along
When the economy went into the tank, there was little that casinos around the US could do to ensure they would not lose revenue. They ran almost every promotion they could think of, yet revenue was still down drastically over the first six months of 2009.
Now, the summer months have arrived, and casinos have turned to old reliable to help carry their gaming revenue through the summer. Concerts from some of the biggest musicians in the world are taking place at casinos all across the country.
There is something for everyone at these concerts. Country music, heavy metal, classic rock, R&B, oldies, whatever it is that can draw in customers, it is being played. Musicians such as Don Henley, Stevie Nicks, and other lead singers take a break from their bands and play these one night concerts at mostly tribal casinos.
"With the economy still down, musicians are feeling the effects just like everyone else," said observer Lonnie Bresk, "so instead of going on big arena tours, where people cannot afford the tickets, these musicians chose to play the casinos."
The casino makes out great in the deal. They bring in the musical act to play for a couple of hours. After the concert is over, there are thousands of concert-goers with nothing to do but go to the casino floor and gamble.
The summer is the prime time for these concerts. Once the fall begins, many of these singers go back to their bands and begin bigger tours. In the summer, the casinos are also dealing with many vacationers, and the short concerts are the perfect after dinner act for these people.
The economy will certainly rebound, although nobody knows when. Until then, many music fans will continue to receive a treat every once in a while in the form of a concert at their local casinos.
