Casinos Once Again Bracing For Hurricanes In The United States
The United States is right in the middle of hurricane season and casinos in the country are having a tough time dealing with the storms. If the economy was already hurting U.S. casinos, the weather has only made things worse.
When Hurricane Katrina made its way through New Orleans a few years ago, casinos in the area were devastated by the damage that occurred. Like most businesses in New Orleans, the casinos rely on tourism to help pay the bills.
After Katrina, the casinos took the same long path back to becoming a running business. Some of them were not even opened for months after the storm and others were damaged so badly that they took millions of dollars to fix.
Now, not only those casinos in New Orleans are looking out for hurricanes, but casinos all around the country are now more prepared then they used to be. This week will be a test to that preparation.
Hurricanes Ike has the potential to be a category four storm when it hits land in the United States. That kind of storm could produce some of the worst damage that could be possible.
As the storm approaches, casinos are taking the precautions to ensure that they minimize their damage and shut down time should the storm hit their area.
Ike will most likely not be the last storm that comes ashore this year, so even if the casinos dodge this bullet, they must stay on alert for the remainder of the Fall.
