Choctaw Chief Confident Voters Would Support Casino
Jackson County voters would support plans for a new casino operated by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, but the Gulf Coast's commercial gaming industry would fight against the proposed project, Chief Phillip Martin says. "They would be foolish if they didn't oppose us," Martin said this week in an interview with The Sun Herald.
"Yeah, we expect that. "The tribe operates two casino resorts in Neshoba County and own nearly 100 acres along Mississippi 57 near Interstate 10 in Jackson County. The Choctaws also operate a printing company in Jackson County and has developed ties with the local community, Martin said. "I think the Jackson County people are going to support us," the chief said. "We've been there 12 years. We have contributed to their economy. We have created jobs. "
