The development company that will be bringing a casino to Cincinnati took some time on Saturday to listen to what resident of the city would like the casino to look like. Although the casino has been approved, there is still plenty of ideas to be discussed as to what the casino's appearance would be.
Over 200 people volunteered their time on Saturday to discuss what they would like to see in the new casino. tops on the list of points discussed was how to limit light and noise pollution, and creating a casino that is energy efficient.
"We want the casino to be beautiful, something we can be proud of," said Barry Walters, "But at the same time, we want the developer to be considerate to the environment and the surrounding area of the casino."
While they debate appearance and structure in Cincinnati, Columbus residents are preparing to vote on a new location for their casino. In November, voters approved four casinos for Ohio, with the one in Columbus being in the Arena District.
Business leaders in the city quickly took exception to the Arena District location. They discussed possible options with the mayor and Penn National, the developer building the casino. In order to move the location, however, an amendment must be approved by voters. That vote will come in May.
Cleveland and Toledo have had nothing but smooth sailing so far for their casinos. Officials for the state are hoping that all four casinos will be opened by sometime in 2011 or 2012.
The casinos are projected to bring millions of dollars in tax revenue for the state. In addition, thousands of jobs will be created in a state where many have lost their employment during the economic recession.
