City Council Says Don't Bet On Casino In Canal Fulton
After a debate in Canal Fulton, city council members voted not to bring casinos to their city. Had it passed, the city would have started a deal to allow the Eastern Shawnee tribe of Oklahoma to build and manage a casino. The tribe claims it was driven out of Ohio 200 years ago. The Oklahoma tribe has filed a lawsuit against the state and many local communities laying claim to land in Ohio. Hundreds of people who couldn't fit gambling into Monday night's council meeting gathered outside, chanting, "No casino" and singing, "God Bless America. "Mayor John Grogin said he knew there would be some controversy surrounding the proposal, but he didn't realize it would be so strong.
