2008 was not kind to casinos in Colorado. Then again, the year was not really good for any businesses throughout the US. The casinos in Colorado are hoping the new laws going into effect will turn things around.

A report issued on Thursday indicates that Colorado casino revenue dropped over twelve percent in 2008. The $715.8 million made in 2008 pales in comparison to the $816.1 million from 2007.

The end of the year was particularly bad for casinos in Colorado. December revenue numbers dropped from $58.2 million in 2007, to $48.6 million in 2008. Even with the casino figures down throughout the year, the December numbers were down over fourteen percent from November.

There is a silver lining for Colorado. New laws are being voted in all across the state that will allow for casinos to stay open around the clock. That will help increase revenue at the casinos.

Higher limits will also be available at the casinos under the new laws. The limits and hours of operation was voted into law in the November election statewide, and since then, local communities have approved the new laws.
