Colorado Casino Gambling Spikes Over Holiday Weekend
Colorado casino owners believe that the new laws are working in the state, while others believe it was the holiday weekend that caused a spike in revenue. Either way, casinos in the state are enjoying the returns from a strong weekend.
This past weekend was Fourth of July and many people had a four or five day vacation from work. The state, however, also just had new laws go in effect that allowed casinos to stay open around the clock and raise betting limits from $5 to $100.
"It will take a couple of months before we know whether the increase in revenue had to do with the increased betting limits and hours of operation, or whether it was the holidays that caused the increase," said observer Trey Nolen, "but I believe it had more to do with the betting limits.
The state and the casinos have not been the only ones to benefit from the expanded gambling. There were 750 jobs that were created from the expanded hours, meaning that almost 1,000 people who had lost employment, gained full-time jobs.
Voters in three separate counties all came out in November in favor of expanding both the betting limits and the hours a casino can operate. The vote is keeping in line with other states that have also expanded their casino laws.
Many states in the US did not even have casinos until the past couple of years. Now, it appears that casino gambling is the industry that will save state budgets for the near future. Billions of dollars nation-wide is being generated from casinos.
