Colorado Casino Industry Prepares For Major Gambling Overhaul
Colorado voters had their say back in November. In addition to helping elevate Barack Obama to the presidency, they also had to weigh in on casino issues in their own state. The result of that vote will start being felt on Thursday.
Starting this week, betting limits will be raised at Colorado casinos from $5 to $100. In addition, the casinos will be permitted to stay open around the clock every day of the week if they should choose to do so.
The new laws in Colorado will give a major boost to the casinos industry. Around the US, casinos have been struggling during the recession, and many states have taken steps to help the casinos thrive once again.
"This is a big, big deal for the state of Colorado," said observer William Benner, "the additional revenue that expanded hours and betting limits brings the state will help dearly in trying to balance the budget and its deficit."
There is minor concern among casino managers that the expanded hours could bring in additional crime. More security has already been brought in to ensure that the transition to twenty-four hour gambling goes smoothly.
The early estimates have casino revenue growing by twenty-five percent because of the expanded hours and betting limits. Community colleges will be one of the beneficiaries of the new limits.
