Conn. Gamblers Take A Break To Attend Sailfest New London 2010
Residents of Connecticut are used to going to the state's casinos when they are looking for entertainment. This weekend, however, gamblers have shifted their focus from the gaming tables to the Sailfest New London 2010 festivities.
Sailfest has been taking place in Connecticut for twenty-five years, and each year the crowds have been getting bigger. This year the event is being held at Burr's Marina in New London, where it has long made its home. Hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected throughout the weekend.
The highlight of Sailfest is the fireworks display tonight, but there is plenty of other attractions for visitors. Game booths, vendors, and various food stations are all part of the gala event. Rides are also available for families that are looking for a fun weekend to spend with their children.
Visitors will not come only by car and by foot. Hundreds of boats will also line the coast for the fireworks display. It is one of the few times all year that the state of Connecticut shifts its focus from their casino gaming business.
The casinos in Connecticut spent last summer teaming up on a billboard campaign along the New Jersey Turnpike that was intended to bring gamblers from AC casinos to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. This year, the casinos are facing even more competition.
Pennsylvania has become a major player in the Northeastern US casino industry. Lawmakers in Pennsylvania legalized table games earlier this year, and the games, such as blackjack, roulette, and craps, have already started to arrive in the casinos.
