Connecticut Casinos Have Mixed Revenue Results In September

Connecticut casinos had the Northeast gaming industry to themselves for several decades. Outside of Atlantic City, Connecticut casinos were the only game in town when it came to slots, blackjack, and other casino table games. Over the past decade, however, times have changed.

Competition now comes from many states in the region, and the competition is having an effect on Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods, the two gaming resorts in Connecticut. In September, the revenue figures from Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun show a mixed bag of how the competition is affecting each gaming establishment.

In September, slots revenue at Foxwoods was down five percent over the same period last year. Mohegan Sun saw an increase in revenue, although only by four percent. The numbers were indicative of how the trends have fallen over the past year as the two facilities adjust to the competition. Foxwoods revenue was $53.2 million, while Mohegan Sun had revenue of $59.8 million.

Mohegan Sun revenue was up for the first time since March. The economic downturn in recent months has caused a ripple effect throughout the US gaming industry, making the September numbers all the more welcome by Mohegan Sun officials.
