Connecticut Casinos Join The Club, Revenue Down In July
The list goes on and on. As is the case with almost every state in the country, Connecticut had their casino revenue down in July from last year. It is a common theme among casinos around the country.
Connecticut has the Foxwoods Resort Casino and the Mohegan Sun. Neither of those casinos was able to post an increase from last year. They both claim that it is the economy which is driving down numbers.
"We continue to see softness in the market, which we believe is caused by the continued weakening in the economy, high gas prices, and alternative choices for drive-in slot patrons in New York and Rhode Island," said Interim President of Foxwoods, Barry Cregan.
Mohegan Sun was down almost 14.6 percent in July. Foxwoods did not fall as far, only dropping 3.2 percent from last year in July. It equated to $2.4 million in revenue loss.
"Comparing this against the last July, which was really spectacular for us...this was expected," said President and Chief Executive Officer at Mohegan Sun, Mitchell Etess.
The state of Connecticut becomes the latest in a growing group of states that have now reported revenue decreases in July from last year. The trend is not contained to just July, it has been going on now for the better part of this year.
