Construction Of Second Kansas Casino Set For The Spring
Forgive people in Kansas if they are skeptical of the latest news involving construction of a new casino. The state has struggled to secure developers and plans have fallen apart many times in the past, so Friday's news is being met with cynicism.
The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission approved the Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway on Friday, paving the way for construction to begin on the new facility. The news Friday has some people feeling relieved.
"I didn't think that the casino would ever become a reality," said Frank Bellsor, "Every time a deal seemed close, they pulled the rug out from under us. I'm happy a deal has finally been reached and I can't wait until I can play slot machine4s at the track."
Kansas Entertainment, the group proposing the casino, had to wait until background checks were complete before they were approved. On Friday, that approval came through after the Gaming Commission reviewed all of the background checks.
"This will mean thousands of permanent and construction jobs and they couldn't come at a more important time for our community and the region," said Kansas City Mayor Joe Reardon, "The Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway will be another destination venue that will attract even more visitors to our tourism district."
Dodge City is the only area of the four zones approved for a state-owned casino where a casino is up and running. The other three zones have struggled to find developers willing to pay the price the state has asked. The Kansas Speedway is hoping to begin construction in the Spring.
