Cordish Company Job Expo Brings Thousands Of Casino Hopefuls
With the current economic conditions still causing job layoffs around the country, casinos have become a popular source of income for many unemployed people in the US. The latest example of how important casinos are to an area came in Maryland.
The Cordish Company has proposed a new casino adjacent to Arundel Mills mall, held a job expo at the food court of the mall on Thursday. The company had people fill out applications, but more importantly they were drumming up support for the proposal.
As of now, the casino has not yet been approved. The Cordish Company, which is based in Baltimore, is hoping that changes soon. If approved, the casino would bring over 4,000 jobs to an area where unemployment has hurt many families.
"I hope that the casino becomes a reality and that I am able to get one of the available positions," said Stacey Ritter, a resident who has been unemployed for several months after her company cut jobs.
Ritter's sentiment was echoed by many of the thousands of people that showed up for the job expo. The common theme among the people in attendance was the need for the 4,000 jobs. It is a theme that has become commonplace around the country.
Since the economic recession has surfaced, many states have expanded their gambling laws. A casino boom has taken place and is continuing to take place throughout the country.
